Guarding Those Who Guard Us
The Patriot Guard: "The Patriot Guard Riders is an organization comprised of patriots and veterans. Their mission is to pay respect and honor to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country and to ensure its citizens continue to enjoy the freedoms this great country guarantees us. We accomplish this by an invitation from the family to attend the services of the fallen hero as invited guests. To secure the invitation, the Patriot Guard Riders' State Captain will contact the casualty assistance officer assigned by the military to assist the family with the planning of the funeral for their loved one.
"Of late it has been difficult to make contact with the Army casualty assistance officers. This has meant that the Patriot guard Riders could not attend most Army funerals as a group to pay honor and respect to the fallen hero, the family, and the community. To deny the family the opportunity to witness total strangers standing on an honor line holding our glorious flag - the very flag that the hero gave his life for - is a disservice to them and our hero.
"Until you have stood with us and witnessed the reaction of the family and community, you will not understand the comfort they derive from this. They see citizens, patriots, strangers that cared enough to attend the funeral of an American hero; to thank him and the family for the sacrifice made on our behalf.
"We are trying to get the word out to the families of our fallen heroes. If you would like the Patriot Guard Riders to attend the funeral of your loved one, please send an e-mail to info@patriotguard.org. If you would like to know more about the Patriot guard riders, please visit our website at www.patriotguard.org. I urge you to read the letters from the families, friends, and military. Their letters will better explain what having the Patriot Guard Riders present means to them. Thanks, Joe Giglio."
I have joined the Patriot Guard Riders - and would like you all to look into participating with this wonderful group to bring support to our military families.
