I’m Dr. Laura Schlessinger and I want to thank you for taking the time to
visit my website. Whether you’re a frequent guest to drlaura.com, or this is
your first visit, you have stumbled upon a new section I’ve added to my
site. With guidance and technology from the experts at Speakout.com, this
‘activism center’ will help to educate you on important issues and
streamline the process necessary to react to those issues.
One issue I am extremely passionate about is the need for filtering
technology in public schools and libraries. Along with the proliferation of
the internet, there has been an explosion of sites dedicated to pornography
and other obscenities. These sites are so abundant, that it is almost
impossible for school children to avoid them when surfing the unfiltered
net.
In the name of intellectual freedom and the first amendment, the American
Library Association vehemently opposes any type of legislation that would
call for filtering software on children’s library computers. Why innocent
children need be subjected to pornography and why pornography need be
protected under the guise of intellectual freedom is beyond me.
For the safety and protection of children, it is imperative that we push for
legislation to ensure filters be installed in our schools and in children’s
public library rooms.
I encourage you, take a few minutes – learn both sides of this important
issue and then decide for yourself. Should young children be protected
against pornography that, prior to the advent of the internet, could only be
found in the sleazy backrooms of adult-only-bookstores or XXX rated movie
houses?
Fill out the necessary fields and send the message to your state and federal
representatives. For the protection of the innocent, filtering technology
must be installed in all public computer terminals accessible to children.
Our children’s moral condition is a critical aspect of our country’s welfare
and future.
