"So, What DO You Do?"

When people ask me what I do and I say I am a mom, they usually ask again a few minutes later, "So, what DO you do?" It's hard to answer that question for a couple of reasons. For one, I'm not proud of saying I take a morning nap because my 1 year old hasn't slept through the night for the past 450 nights. Two, I assume they know I clean and cook, and play with my son. And lastly, I am not proud of saying I take time to read, listen to the radio, and yes, watch tv moderately. I mean, how lazy is that right? Especially when the person asking me owns a business or has a college degree or works…

But the truth of it is, I do these things because they relax me, keep me informed, and generally make me happy. I know when I am calm and happy, so is my son. It makes the difference between him whining all day and being happy. When my husband comes home, I am so relaxed and happy, I make him happy too. I am happy to clean and cook and listen to him and support him.

Perhaps I relax too much,.. after all, I only have to clean a 1 bedroom apartment, albeit several times a day! But, it makes me happy and it makes my family happy. It just feels right. As far as I'm concerned, it must be right.

I don't understand how the feminists say not only do you have to bear and raise children, you also have to pay the bills!!! What man would let his woman do that without at least trying to help!!

I love you Dr. Laura for being so strong and doing what's right!!!

Love,

J.

Different than the Good Samaritan rule, there is an American bystander rule that, with a few exceptions, one has 'no legal duty to rescue or call for help to aid someone'. Do you think this rule is fair?
