There Are No Do-Over's

I've never stood up for myself until yesterday. I was so proud of myself as I stood up to my parents and set clear boundaries. I told my Mom that her behavior is hurtful. They were shocked at my boldness.

When I got off the phone, part of me felt like I was going to throw up and the other part of me felt like I earned a part of my self-esteem. My strong, supportive husband was next to me. He was reassuring me that I was worth sticking up for. Even though I should expect nothing to change, he was the proud of me. He was more proud of me than he's ever been, in the entire 8 years we have been together. I finally showed some guts by putting myself and my family first. I should not feel guilt for having my own life and expecting others treat me with kindness.

Thank you Dr. Laura, for being my biggest support and role model. Because of you I'm going to do this motherhood thing right the first time. I now realize there are no do-overs.
