I Resigned from My Job Today

Dr. Laura,

I have been listening to you since I graduated from college 12 years ago. I can't tell you how much your words of wisdom and advice have affected my life and decisions.

I completed my master's degree, and started dating my husband when I was 30. After a year of courtship, he asked my father's permission to propose, and we were married a year after that. After two and a half years of a marriage - I love being my husband's girlfriend - we are preparing to welcome our first child this month.

Today, I went to my boss and resigned in order to start my next chapter as my kid's mom. I have an amazing job and career, but raising my baby is more important. Like you say...there are dozens of people who can take my job, but I am the only one who can give my baby girl what she needs. My husband and I have worked hard over the past two years to prepare financially and emotionally for this decision. When I called my husband this morning to say that I had resigned, I have never heard him happier. He said it meant so much to him to have his loving wife staying home to raise his child - and that he has never felt more motivated to continue doing well in his career. I could hear the pride in his voice...pride in being a strong man providing for his family.

Thank you for being such an incredible role model and moral compass for me. I love listening to you every day at work and can't wait to continue doing so from my home as a stay-at-home mom. Keep up the great work!

Sara
