What I Look Forward to as I Get Older
Dr. Laura,

I'll be 47 in nine days and do not, as a rule, look forward to aging because I love life so much now. And despite a strong and active faith, getting older scares the hell out of me!

But you were having a conversation with a troubled young woman a few weeks ago, who ultimately wanted to be a vet if she could get herself untangled from some current difficulties. You encouraged her in this direction, because working with animals would bring out the softness in her.

That really got my attention, because I, too, love animals and I know have an edge that needs softening. It also got my attention, because as odd as it sounds, I study you for clues, Dr. Laura. You are 20 years older than I. And while you certainly can have an edge (!), you are on purpose and strong enough to be pretty and soft, too - often wearing light colors and soft textures. And you love life.

So, as I get older, I look forward to having the inner strength to be on purpose and to soften, while continuing to love life.

Stephanie
