Third Person Advice Works!
I have a beautiful 18 yr old daughter who is the light of my life. I raised her with a Christian faith, her father passed away of cancer when she was three. I was a single mother for fourteen years of her life, so we are very close to say the least. Sometimes I believe that I was overly protective, and at times a little harsh in raising her, but I have been thanked by her for being strict at times as she sees what her friends go through with parents that aren't always there for them.
My thanks to you is this: since she started college, and has moved from home, we have both been going through a difficult transition with understanding boundaries, and which direction to move in. I am still her mom, still giving advice when she asks, but sometimes she is not paying attention and is in her own little world. We were driving down the road the other day and I had your radio show on. There were no words being spoken, and she said to me "Thank you for listening to Dr. Laura, I am going to use her advice that she is giving to these listeners today." She did, and was so remarkable the following day with her attitude and outlook on life. She had been quite distant, and rude, and thanks to you-not me-giving the advice, it was heeded and made a big difference. You now have another listener to your program. You are a blessing.
Thank you,
D. - my daughter's mom!
