The Proper Care Of My Husband
Hello Dr Laura,
I just had to write you after what happened this past week.
I recently started listening to you every day on my ride home from work. I would even take the long way home to listen to you wrap up a caller I was interested in hearing your advice.
I kept telling my husband that he had to listen to you. "Yeah Yeah," he said. Finally, one day last week we were driving together during your show and I quickly grabbed the opportunity to "force" him to listen to you.
He rolled his eyes and said, "Fine, whatever." The first caller he heard had a question about intimacy. He wanted more sex, she didn't have the energy. You had his interest now!! We continued to listen for the next 45 minutes for our ride home. He was hooked.
The next day he was out running errands and bought me "The Proper Care & Feeding of Husbands". I guess that was my hint. I knew I needed to work on things in our relationship and even after listening to you, I did not change.
He started to read it first. I was actually getting furious and annoyed with him because he kept pointing out all the things that I do. I was trying to be patient and listen to him point all my flaws. I asked him if he'd like a highlighter lol.
Finally, he let go of the book and let me start to read it. I began to read it and it was much better reading it than listening him point them out. It was sinking in.
I knew what I needed to do and I have to thank you. This is helping me so much and is helping make our relationship stronger and less stressful. By the end of chapter 2, I was in tears and apologized to my husband for my attitudes.
We are both remarried parents and married now for 4 years. Our kids are 18,16,15,14 and 12. We have always had custody of my three boys and got custody of his two children about two years ago. It's been a lot of work and you are helping me remember all the reasons why I chose my husband to spend the rest of my life with.
Thanks again and onto Chapter 3.
K.
