Hang Up That Cellphone!
Dr. Laura,
Thank you, thank you, thank you!! You are always there for children and I'm glad you are addressing something I see almost daily: Mothers on cell phones at the park, at the market, and just about everywhere else having conversations with someone who isn't there, all the while ignoring the little child who is with them! It makes me want to scream!
My sons, now ages 6 & 9 know all too well my feelings on this subject, and often comment on how sad it is that the babies are being ignored by their mothers. One of the saddest moments I can recall occurred at a restaurant. Our family was having lunch together and a mother across from us sat there and had a conversation on a cell phone for over 45 minutes, while her little daughter sat there unengaged in any communication. Shame!
I am proud to say that my sons, despite their chronic ear infections as infants still developed proper speech due to their mommy constantly communicating with them. I always talked with them any time I had the opportunity, and because of this they are doing very well in school and show no signs of any delay from their infections and temporary hearing losses.
Much Love to you,
Charter Box Mom
