Leaving Kids With Strangers

Hello Dr. Laura,

I would like to start out this e-mail by telling you that I am my husband's girlfriend and I have been listening to you since I was four or five years old with my mother. (She raised me to be a loyal listener!)

I recently started working at a "Preschool" (a.k.a. daycare) part time in the afternoons from 2:30-6:30. I have been in the baby room for the past week taking care of babies as young as three months old. It absolutely breaks my heart to see these little babies not at home being nurtured by their mothers. I am usually in the baby room when the parent(s) come to pick up their children. When I see the moms holding their little babies saying stuff like "Oh, I'm not going to leave you," blah blah blah; it's ridiculous. It makes me wonder if they even feel guilty for leaving their kids with total strangers for over eight hours. When my husband and I got married we had already agreed that we would not have children until we were financially stable enough for me to stay home and raise them. This choice has been solidified even more through this job and your influence. Thank you Dr. Laura.

Have a blessed day,

A.

P.S. On the back of my wedding program, I wrote a thank you to my family. It read something like this. "Mom, Dad, and big brother, Thank you so much for everything you have put into me over my lifetime. I couldn't have asked for more wonderful, Godly parents. Between Jesus, y'all and Dr. Laura, I think I turned out alright"
