Perfect Timing

I was leaving work early one day to pick up my then 5-month-old twin boys from daycare because one of them was sick. I was miserable. I had only been back at work for a couple of months and the job I once loved seemed like pure torture. I hated constantly feeling rushed, drained, and stressed. Most of all I hated that daycare workers seemed to know my babies better than me. I wanted to be a stay-at-home mom, but like so many women, didn't think we could afford it. Well, you changed my mind that day ...

I had heard of Dr. Laura, but had not listened to the program until this particular day. I was channel surfing as I drove to the daycare center and stopped when I heard you talking about the importance of being home with your kids. I agreed with every single point you made, which made me see that I needed to make some changes.

I told my husband that night, and he was thrilled. He supported the idea of me staying at home from the beginning. I also think he was tired of seeing his once fun-loving wife turn into a complete ball of stress. I turned in my resignation the next day. Yes, this meant serious budgeting, but we've made it work. We slashed our cable bill to the most basic package (like we have time to watch TV!), we said goodbye to our monthly pest control (we have to kill our own bugs now!), we're still driving our same old cars, etc. The point is that it is possible! And worth every penny we no longer spend!

My boys, now 2-years-old, are AWESOME! We have fun doing something different every day, rather than them being stuck at the same daycare center from morning to night. I want to scream from the mountain tops to every mommy out there to do the same thing. I'm happy, my husband's happy, and my boys are happy. And I now know that I know them better than anyone else in this world, not the ladies at the daycare center. Thank you Dr. Laura for giving me the encouragement I needed!
