I want to thank you for saving me from myself. When I was young I had a bad childhood. I was traveling down a path of destruction, then one day in my Dr's office I saw a copy of your book 10 Stupid Things Women Do To Mess Up Their Lives. I was hooked and took the book home to read it. From that moment on I began to live my life by asking myself what would Dr. Laura do.
When I met my husband I picked up your book 10 Stupid Things Couples Do To Mess Up Their Relationships so that I didn't make the same mistakes my parents did. Our relationship was strong from the beginning and we have been happily married for 12 years.
When we decided to have kids I added another life manual, Stupid Things Parents Do To Mess Up Their Kids. I have to say my kids thank you for saving them before they were born.
I was on cloud nine when The Proper Care & Feeding of Husbands came out, I rushed out and bought it right away. It became another handbook to add to my already growing life manuals of your sage and well received advice.
I have since added The Proper Care & Feeding of Marriage, In Praise of Stay At Home Moms, Bad Childhood/Good Life, and Stop Whining/Start Living.
When people come to my home they see your books and scoff, I just tell them they can scoff but they are my life manuals and they have helped me change to be the person whom they love, and saved me from being the person they would despise. I tell them if they need a real therapist forget the money per hour and borrow my manuals, you can get more from one book then years of therapy.
I thank you for being my wiser friend, and mother ad litum. I also thank you for saving the frightened sixteen year old who thought her life was over and bringing me back from the edge of the nearest tall building. Thank you for helping me be a parent that my kids can love, and my husband's girlfriend and life long partner.
Your Life Manuals will forever remain and will be passed from me to my children when they decide to make the life changing decisions as they grow. These will be the gifts of love I can pass on to them. Thank you for being the great and honorable person I can look up to.
