Find A Lump: Biopsy, Biopsy, Biopsy!!!

I just heard a caller, Beth, phone in to ask how she could stop focusing on the potential negativity of an undetermined breast cancer diagnosis...I just about jumped out of my car!
Please, please, please continue to tell your listeners that they HAVE to get a biopsy!!! Women have got to stop being afraid of this. Feeling your boob is great to first find a lump, but once you've found it, get yourself to a doctor!! A breast specialist!!! And make them biopsy the lump. Ultrasounds are useless, and as my very talented oncologist (the third one I visited) once said, "The proof is in the pathology."
Beth needs to find a better doctor...a "50/50 chance" is no kind of educated diagnosis and is more apt to describe the weather forecast's chance of rain. Beth, go get another doctor, demand a biopsy, and until the results of the biopsy come back, continue to live your wonderful life, because once you've had the biopsy, there is nothing more you can do...it is out of your hands, so you might as well not worry about it!
This December I will become a five-year breast cancer survivor at the ripe old age of 35. At the age of 30 I was told that the lump in my right breast was nothing to be worried about. Three doctors, one mastectomy, six months of chemo and three years of hormone treatment later, I am happy to be here, and REALLY wish that a biopsy had been done on day one!!!

p.s. I have listened to you for years and my husband and I LOVE you and your advice! I'm happy to tell you that I'm a Navy pilot (13 years active duty) who will be separating from the service this December so that I can stay at home and raise our children - we don't have any yet, but we're working on it! I will continue to keep your son in my prayers!
