Real Moms

After being a parent for 23 years (and 3 days), today I had my first incident with school violence. One of my 11 year old twin girls was attacked getting on the school bus. The school contacted our home right away. My husband took the call, and took care of initial stuff. He then called me at work (this is my first year working outside the home and it is only two days a week as a PE teacher at a small charter school).

Anyway prior to school getting out I marched into the school and proceeded directly to the dean's office where I calmly yet firmly started in with my "Dr. Laura" routine (which mostly just pisses my family off when I do this - because they know they have been called to the carpet - and will not be allowed to have bad behavior excused). I was received quite well and I think that it is all because I have had all this verbiage in my head for so long just waiting to use it. Well today I got my chance. I am making sure that this child will not be allowed on the bus for a reasonable amount of time, and am making sure the school is taking sufficient measures. I am also filing a police report based on the fact that this behavior is not ok - ever - and that it is, as I found out today, pretty much the normal character of the offending child.

It is not only my responsibility to PROTECT my child, but also not to stand by and watch another child's life go down the toilet because he has not had the proper upbringing. I am hoping that by filing this police report the family will get the help that they need - forced, yes - oh well -that they need to get him straightened out (and his other brothers).

Thank you for reinforcing "now go do the right thing" in my head. My mom was pretty good at it - but lady - you do it OH SO WELL!!!!!

I AM MY K IDS' MOM!!!

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you,

C.
