Parent - Teacher Conference Fun
Dear Dr. Laura -
Today I was told by a coworker I needed a class in how to win friends and influence people. She was utterly shocked at what I told my son's third grade teacher.
My third grade son has a very slight hearing loss which affected his speech just a bit. Most adults have NO problem understanding him, but some children had problems and that led to him being picked on. He had a great teacher last year that put a stop to it.
I asked his teacher if she had noticed anyone bullying him and she said no. He hasn't complained so I'm inclined to believe it. She said she couldn't always vouch for what happens on the playground. I told her I understood...two or three teachers and 90-100 kids at a time there's not enough eyes to go around. I also told her that I had instructed him to tell a teacher if he could, but if he was backed into a corner or struck he was to defend himself.
She said to me, "That's fine, but he needs to know that there will be consequences to his actions."
I smiled sweetly and said, "That's fine, but YOU need to know that if the school fails to protect him and he gets in trouble for protecting himself there WILL be legal consequences."
I work as a paralegal so finding an attorney won't be an issue if needed...although the principal IS fair minded and I am fairly confident that my son would suffer no consequence at the hands of the school.
By the way - my son is in Judo and is progressing so well he is invited to compete. So, in reality, I kind of pity the brat --I mean kid who makes the mistake of bullying him.
I am my hot husband's sexy lover and my kids' mom!
R.
