Aspen, Who Was Rejected By Mom
Dr Laura,
Tears welled in my eyes as I listened to the almost 12 year old girl ask how to get over the hurt of her mother abandoning her. Your answer to her was wonderful and extremely sensitive. You related the five fingers of one hand to one finger of the other hand for those who loved her and the one who didn't. You complimented her on how she phrased her request, as one who didn't want to change mom, but rather how to deal with the hurt.
I too, at exactly the same age, went through the selfish mom abandoning her family. I sure wish I had heard your advice then. It would have saved me 20 years of fretting. Eventually, I ended up following your advice on my own, after years of guilt. You truly helped this young girl.
