My Marriage Turned Right Around
Dear Dr. Laura,
I want to thank you for all you do and who you are! You have impacted my life more than I can ever explain to you, from being a stay-at-home Mom, to now being my Husband's girlfriend.
I recently downloaded your book,"The Proper Care & Feeding of Marriage" onto my ipod and have been listening to it when I go out running. It has been life-changing for me, and even though I have been an active listener and reader of yours, for some reason this book hit home. I have been married for almost 8 years to a wonderful Man who works hard to support me and our 3 young boys. We are always busy. Lately I have felt lonely in our marriage, always wishing my husband would notice me more, or send me flowers. Wasn't I entitled to more than this stale marriage? At night when we would go to sleep I would wonder why it felt like we were room-mates rather than lovers. After listening to your book, I have realized that all of this has been MY fault, and not his! It's incredible. I realized how much my husband does for me: helps with the kids when he gets home from work, supports me in my hobbies and aspirations, works hard to provide a roof over our heads and plenty of food to eat... and all of this with NEVER a complaint! I, on the other hand, tend to complain about the baby being whiny and me not being able to finish everything on MY list...etc. It was a simple shift in my attitude and my priorities that have made all the difference. I put my husband back at the TOP of the list . . . and it was easy . . . . and so so so worth it.
So, last week my boys and I surprised my husband by decorating the inside of his truck w/ candy and paper hearts stating all the reasons why we love him. The next night, my husband and I went out on a date. For some reason he wanted to drive his truck and not our car. When I asked him why, he replied, "So you can sit right next to me!" Wow! . . . and I did. It was fun. Since then I have made an effort to think of him often and do little things for him. He has responded by soft touches in the kitchen, greater awareness of me, and he's just down-right happier! I can't believe that I've been so blind to see that all along he HAS been there for me, I just haven't been here for him. I love him so much! Just last night as we were driving in the truck as a family, my 5 yr old asked, "Mom, why are you sitting right there?" (I was right next to my husband, instead of my regular passenger seat position) . . . My husband quickly responded . . . "That's where you sit when you're in love!" Ahhhh... the feeling of being in love again, how sweet it is.
Thank you Dr. Laura for all you have done for me and my family. I thank God for you in my prayers, and pray for you and for a continued blessing on you to help all of us who need it. I am more committed to my children and my husband because of listening to you. I couldn't ask for a greater blessing, for they, my family, mean EVERYTHING to me, and you have helped me prioritize and realize these, my richest blessings! I LOVE YOU!!!!!! Thank you again!
