Getting Motivated To Work Out
Dr Laura
I keep hearing callers call into your program and ask you how to stay motivated to "work out" and stay fit. I'm always a little perturbed at these callers because they act as if some of us were with a "motivation to work out" gene. What a crock! I'm 5'3" and weigh 125 lbs. Why? Because I work out everyday, step class 4 days, spin class 3 days and weight lifting in addition. I don't "find time", I make time, it's part of my life...just like my job. And you know what...I don't like exercising! I really don't. When I wake up in the morning to do my 8:00 spin class...I dread it, and for a moment I think of other things that I really NEED to do instead. Legitimate things mind you! But I KNOW that if I let myself give into that excuse, it would develop into a very bad habit and I would eventually fall off the wagon (as your earlier caller was complaining about). Instead, I tell myself to push through it, it's only an hour....and I can do just about anything for an hour. I tell myself that I feel good, and I want to go to class. It's amazing what a positive effect that has on my mind and energy level.
The best part of my classes are when they are over! Then, after I shower and dress, the other best part is how damned good I look :) for a 46 year old broad. There is no secret, people...there is just putting the excuses in the garbage can and JUST DO IT!
Thanks
Tinker
