That's Not Funny! Don't Mess With My Mom!
Hello Dr. Laura,
I am my kids' mom and my husband's girlfriend!
So many times I hear you comment on children listening to a conversation not meant for their ears or that you will not continue a call with a child in the room and the callers blow you off. Well, a couple of weeks ago we were at the dinner table just talking and sharing when our 5 year old daughter made the statement that she was going to marry Daddy. My husband proceeded to explain to her that he was already married to Mommy and what it meant to be married - on five year old terms of course! She seemed to be satisfied with that and went back to eating. Meanwhile, our 3 year old son set there quietly eating his dinner not saying a word. My husband smiled at me and quietly said that he had never considered having more than one wife at a time, what did I think and winked at me! Before I could respond, our son directly and with confidence and a stern voice told my husband, "That's not funny. Don't mess with my mom!" I think that says it all!
