A Home Gym Doesn't Have To Cost A Fortune!

It's easier and cheaper than you may think. When most people think of home gyms, they imagine bulky equipment that turn into clothes hangers after a couple of months. Or, people are turned away from the substantial price that goes along with most large pieces of workout equipment.

Don't be fooled by one of those late night infomercials that promise you the body of a Greek God by using their new wild inventions - for the most part, they're not worth the money.

Working out has changed dramatically in the last five years. We have gone from going to gyms for workouts on machines to sweating while playing the Wii Fit in the comfort of our living room. Don't get me wrong, Wii Fit can be a great fitness tool (as long as you use it), but it also comes with a pretty hefty price tag (roughly $350).

The good news is that there are other home gym options that won't break the bank and won't cramp your living space while allowing you to get fit.

To create your own home gym, these are the essential pieces:
  1. Stability ball (big ball you can sit on, roughly $30)
  2. Pair of 8 lbs. or 10 lbs. dumbbells (roughly $20 a pair)
  3. A good mat (roughly $30).
This full gym can be purchased for $80! Now, that's a wise investment!

To go a step beyond the basics, you can add the following:
  1. Resistance bands (roughly $15 per band)
  2. A good pull-up bar (roughly $80). For added safety, I prefer a wall mounted or ceiling mounted bar instead of a door jamb mount.
I'm sure some of you are saying, "but I need my cardio." Well, I'm here to tell you that you can get an incredible, heart pumping workout without your traditional cardio machines and by using the equipment listed above. And, best of all, it will cost you roughly half the price ($175) of a Wii Fit system!

Now, I know you're also thinking, "If I make this investment in equipment, how do I use it?" Well, you're in luck because if you continue to follow the "Dr. Laura's Fit - Tip of the Week" we will show you tons of exercises so you can get toned at home for free!
