HONORING AND COMMENDING
DR. LAURA SCHLESSINGER
I'm feelin' good from my head to my shoes
Know where I'm goin' and I know what to do
I tidied up my point of view
I got a new attitude
For over 30 years there has been one good reason to listen to the radio. People concerned about the sanctity of marriage, the welfare of our children, and preserving our values and moral fiber, or who are distressed and don't know where else to turn, can tune into the Dr. Laura Schlessinger radio show for a daily dose of no-nonsense straight talk. Dr. Laura has dedicated her professional life to helping women, men, couples, families, children, and teenagers find true happiness through her moral health call-in program.
Besides helping callers and through them--the listeners--with issues ranging from marital struggles, to economic distress, to childrearing battles and quite literally every other moral dilemma imaginable, Dr. Laura has written 12 New York Times best-sellers. Her publications have taught us how to properly care for our spouses, how to avoid stupid mistakes that mess up our lives, how to have good lives despite bad childhoods and most recently how to Stop Whining, Start Living.
For her tireless efforts to encourage the millions who tune into her program or read her books to be emotionally and physically healthy, Dr. Laura has won numerous accolades. She was named Woman of the Year in the 19th District of California. Dr. Laura was the first non-Christian to receive the Chairman's Award from the National Religious Broadcasters in 2000. She was the first woman to receive the Marconi Award as the Network/Syndicated Personality of the Year in 1997. Despite her success, fame, and prestigious recognitions, Dr. Laura has indeed remained humble even while sharing her clear, common sense solutions with the world for all these years.
The Senate of the Twenty-Fourth Legislature of the State of Hawai'i hereby honors and commends Dr. Laura Schlessinger for being a loud and powerful voice of reason, steering all those who listen toward the path of love, happiness, and high morals. As we say in Hawai'i "E Komo Mai" (Welcome) and mahalo for encouraging us to go and do the right thing!
