Learning To Appreciate Men

Dr. Laura:

I was raised in the south by women who were strong and independent, but who, unlike many women today, loved and appreciated all men - their husbands first, but then also friends and relatives.  When I was in college, I had occasion to be hanging out with my mother and several aunts.  One of the aunts was a professional, well-educated woman who had never married (back in those days, she was called an "old maid!").  The ladies were having a silly conversation about their men leaving the toilet seat up and they were laughing about foolish reactions they had witnessed others having about said events.

That's when my aunt spoke up and declared forcefully in her very best Southern drawl, "Well, let me tell you one thing!  If I walked into my bathroom and saw the toilet seat up, I would shout HALLELUJAH!!!!"

Because of these dear women, I, too, grew up loving and appreciating men, and I hope and believe I have passed this way of thinking on to my own daughter.
