Tell Them How You Feel About Defending Themselves

Good Morning Dr. Laura,

I remember the day our son entered the second grade...I told him then and there that if he was being picked on, first, he should try to talk or walk his way out of it,  but if he could not, and he had to fight to defend himself, I would back him up 100 percent.

I also told him if I found out he was the one starting a fight or was picking on someone that he would have to answer to me...and that would not go well with him.

That little talk with my son was one I wished my parents would have had with me. I never knew where I stood with them on this subject and it comforts me to know that my son knows exactly where I stand with him on this.

Happy to say he's never been in trouble in or out of school.  Today, at 23 years of age, he is an officer in the Marines stationed at Quantico.  After graduation of TBS, he will move on to Pensacola, FL for flight school.

Semper Fi Dr. Laura...

Sam
