Keeping Focused On The Big Picture

Dear Dr. Laura,

On the drive home the other night I was listening to your book, The Proper Care and Feeding Of Husbands. As I pulled in to the driveway at 12:30 am I realized that my husband had turned the light off in the garage. The wiring to the light is the same as the door. I didn't have my house keys on me and it was pouring down rain. I had to walk around to the backyard while getting barked at by my dogs and yelled at by my sleeping geese. The best part is that I had to crawl through the dog door. To say the least, I wasn't exactly happy about my adventure.

From listening to your book, it was hard to be mad at him. it's not like I've never made a mistake that has caused him to work harder to fix it. Like the time, I flushed a clump of dead grass down the toilet. Which caused it to plug up and he had to take the entire thing apart to fix it. Although I was mad at the moment, when I looked at the big picture, a one time crawl through the dog door really isn't that bad. So I left him a note asking him to please leave the light on for me.

When I told him this morning, how I got into the house he laughed and laughed and apologized. Thank you for teaching me to look at the big picture and not to be so serious all the time.
