Give It Up

Dr, Laura,

I just listened to your podcast on "What to tell yourself when you want to give up" and it really hit me! I've always believed that you shouldn't be a quitter and you just need to stick with it.

Seven years ago, I left a 25-year marriage after years of misery. Our sons were grown but it was the hardest thing I had ever done. I feared what my life would be like when I didn't have our sons in the house to keep me going. For years, my now ex-husband told me that I would never make it without him. I'd never have any friends if I left him and I'd never be able to support myself.

After I left, he was busy in our small town crucifying my character. As much as it hurt, I kept my head held high and made it through day by day. Three years after I left him, I met a man that became a very good friend. He wasn't interest in marriage and I felt very safe with him. He was such a great support, never took anything for granted, and was very patient in building me back up. After three years, I married my best friend. He thanks me every day for the simple things I do. He is a dream come true!

Yes, sometimes it's not giving up... its standing up and walking away. Life is GRAND!
