What to Do When You're Feeling Empty

Each and every one of us goes through times when we feel empty, lonely, self-critical, and not good enough. Here’s how you can get through it:

1. Be kinder to yourself. Failing at something isn’t a statement about your whole personage. You need to stop being so upset with yourself. The reason we fall is so that we can learn to pick ourselves back up.

2. Let go of the past. Holding on to the past is like trying to run up stairs with huge weights tied to your ankles. You have to let go of the past.

3. Get out of your comfort zone. The only way to get comfortable with something is to do it without feeling comfortable. Find out what you really like to do, and then do it.
Listen to your own inner voice, not what other people say.  Be brave enough to make your own decisions.

4. Talk it out. When something isn’t going right in your life, talk to a friend, relative, therapist, or clergy member. When you keep a problem in your head, it seems amorphous, but as soon as you say it out loud, it’s like a vase on the table - it’s something you can look at and face.
