It’s your fault! Two years ago, I realized I’d been complaining about the North Texas summers for about 25 years. I also hated my job. That’s when I heard you use the phrase, “between now and dead….” I listened as though you were talking directly to me, and at that moment I decided to stop complaining and do something! I saved my money, made plans and by the next year I moved to Northwest Arkansas. I didn’t have a firm job offer but had saved enough money to make the jump and did odd jobs to pay the bills. That phrase kept nagging at me, however.
I spent my free time building things in my garage, something I’ve done most of my life. I always enjoyed taking wood and making it into something other than just sticks of wood! Then I came across a local company that made furniture. I didn’t think I’d be good enough to do it professionally, but why not try and shape a career out of something I loved? I pestered them until they interviewed me, and I got an offer for a job which paid the lowest amount of money I’ve made in years. But I took it, because “between now and dead” kept resonating in my ears. I just built my first piece of furniture and I dedicated it to you. It’s the hardest work I’ve done in years, but I come home with more energy than I ever did at a job I hated. Thank you for those four little words. They’ve spurred a welcome change in my life that was far too long in the making!
