Email of the Day: Feminism Negatively Impacted My Marriage

Written by Dr. Laura | 6/8/23 8:45 AM

I’m married almost 20 years, with no children, other than the four-legged kind, and my husband and I still adore each other. I find it interesting that women with children and those without have one thing in common – we have all been influenced negatively by the lies of the feminist movement.

It used to be that a man would never want his wife dump their kids in daycare in order to work to make ends meet, or to live an upper-class lifestyle. Also, women used to enjoy the beautiful creation of making a house a home that was a warm, welcoming place for her family, friends and neighbors, no matter what the income was. It has taken me a long time, several successful careers, a lot of self-awareness and discussions with my husband on how feminism has impacted us both.

Today, while I do have a career, I truly enjoy my husband and home more than anything and have for the longest time, but I used to “stuff it down,” because I thought I should want more and perhaps I was being oppressed by that thinking. Now, I know in my heart those thoughts are manipulative and obnoxious lies. These days, when I get the inevitable “what do you do?” questions, I love throwing the truth at them – that first and foremost I am a wife and homemaker. In addition, when I meet women who are at home with their children and homeschooling, I cheer them on.
