When my granddaughter graduated and got a job in her profession, my daughter (her mother) told her she had six months to move out or start paying rent. My granddaughter tried hard to find roommates so she could move out, but couldnβt do it on short notice for the apartment she found, so she had to pay rent at home. She wasnβt happy about it, but she did it for five months until one of the girls she had talked to earlier asked if she still needed a place to live. It turned out that she and her roommate had an extra room in their apartment.
My granddaughter said to me, βItβs only a little bit more than Iβm already paying my mom! I can do this!β My granddaughter still doesnβt think her mom taught her anything by charging her rent, but now when any other mom is saying they canβt get a kid out, her response is βAre you charging them rent?β
