I have a wonderful husband and four kids. Over the years, I grew to understand what it meant to be my kids’ mom, but it wasn’t until right before the pandemic that I really understood what it meant to be my husband’s girlfriend.
My husband was at a bachelor party, and I was home alone with the kids. I gave them their favorite dinner, let them watch TV, and then it was time for baths and bed. I sat down to eat my dinner in peace and quiet, and just as I was about to take my first bite, I thought of my husband. Right then, I decided to send him a scandalous text. No pictures or anything – just a little comment to let him know I was thinking of him and missing him while he was gone. The minute I pressed “send,” I realized that I had sent the text to my daughter’s dance teacher!! No joke. I was so embarrassed that I followed up with an apology. Then I texted my husband to tell him what had happened. Instead of getting jealous or worked up that I had sent this somewhat racy message to another man, he laughed it off. Then he called me to tell me how much he loved me and missed me on his night out with the boys. An hour later, he sent me another message saying “Hey babe, I still want to take you up on that offer. I got a babysitter for tomorrow night. Will you go out with me?” If that’s not a message from your boyfriend, I don’t know what is.
I hope in 50 years that I’ll still be his girlfriend!
