Today started like any other day. I woke up my three kids, got them all ready for school, made lunches and then made the trip across town to drop them off at two different schools. When I get home, I have about 15 free minutes before my husband leaves for work. Usually, I like to sit and enjoy my coffee while I think about all the chores I need to do. But today, as he was busy getting ready for work, and eating only a banana, I thought maybe I could make him a nice, warm breakfast that he could eat on the way to work. So, I made a quick but hearty warm meal for him, and just as he was ready to leave, I hurried outside to surprise him with a bowl of warm food. The reaction I got was not what I expected.
My husband set the food down, started to cry and hugged me tight. He told me he was so lucky to be mine and that I was the sweetest girl in the world. I gave him a big kiss and told him “Thank you for working so hard for us.” We were both “full” in the moment – full of gratitude and love for each other.
It's because of you, Dr. Laura, that I understand the importance of treating kindly. When I treat kindly and do selfless things for my man, I get back so much more in return. Our kids feel the love and respect we have and it makes for an amazing foundation on which to build our home.
