I am 31 years old, married to my husband for 11 years, and we have three boys. My husband and I started our lives together very young and struggled a lot in the beginning. We now live a very comfortable life, because we were willing to put in the years of work and sacrifice that most aren’t.
With that being said, my older brother is the exact opposite of us. My parents still give him handouts! Every once in a while, I’m bothered by this, because I took no shortcuts. I heard you tell a caller in a similar situation that there is no amount of help that compares to the pride of building your OWN life, and it hit me straight to the heart.
I am extremely proud of the life we have made for our family. I’m proud of the foundation we created for the rest of our lives. The pride we have earned has no price, and not everyone is fortunate enough to experience that feeling. Our sense of accomplishment and empowerment radiates from within and not from getting a handout.

I Used to Resent My Brother
