Email of the Day: I'll EARN the Right to Be My Children's Mother

Email of the Day: I'll EARN the Right to Be My Children's Mother

My sister-in-law and I both come from families that have a lot of money. We married brothers who also have a lot of money. I grew up with a couple of nannies, and I didn’t care for them. Yet, I became a mother and got a nanny for my two children shortly after they were born.

My sister-in-law listens to your show and encouraged me to do the same. At first, I didn’t like your program because it made me feel guilty! Then I had a play date with my sister-in-law and her two children. My kids were crying because we had to leave our nanny at home. My sister-in-law’s kids on the other hand, were happily playing in the yard and looked at my two sons still whining about leaving their nanny. That’s when I said β€œNO MORE!” I contacted my employer that day and quit my job. I probably should have given notice but figured my kids had suffered long enough. I plan to keep their nanny around for a while, however, so I don’t traumatize them more than I already have, even though the reality that some other woman is more important to my children than I am breaks my heart.

During the next few months, I plan to earn the right to be my children’s mother and the nanny will have to go. Thank you for helping me to finally see just how much of a mother I really wasn’t being!
