My husband and I have social media accounts, and today, he surprised me by posting the following:
I was listening to Dr. Laura, and she was having men call in to discuss whether or not marriage was for suckers. In between all the calls regarding relationship dysfunctionality, I kept coming back to the same thought – my wife is amazing! 17 years ago, she agreed to marry me, and I am forever grateful that she did. Though we share many interests, our similarities are not what make our relationship outstanding. Rather, it’s the way we complement each other. Together, we fill each other’s gaps and make a complete whole. She smooths over my rough edges, brings passion to my otherwise stoic nature, and makes me slow down and focus on what matters most. I bring rationality to her emotions, and help her find the humor in situations that she thinks are humorless. And the selfless way she serves our family’s needs with no thought of anything in return inspires me to be a better man. She has devoted her entire life to making our home a warm, loving refuge from the world, and I am grateful beyond words for all of it.
Dr. Laura, I am so grateful for my man. He has been my rock. Done right, marriage can (and should be) a true gift.
