When my daughter was 13, she was given a project in class to choose a world problem and come up with a solution. I was a bit nervous when she told me she had chosen divorce as her problem and she was going to use you, Dr. Laura, as a source.
Her solution? If the parents felt it was absolutely necessary to divorce, they had to allow their children to stay in the home and the parents had to move back and forth each week. She even gave it a catchy name β KHF: Kidβs Happiness First. She did a whole PowerPoint presentation on it, and included research from psychologists on the effects divorce has on children. Her data even came from several different countries. She got an βAβ on the project, but more importantly, she was chosen to present it to the whole school! She showed much insight and depth, considering she had not been exposed to divorce firsthand.
I may not have raised βbeautifulβ children, but my husband and I raised three exceptional human beings to do the right thing!
