Email of the Day: No One Could Love Our Adopted Daughter More

Many years ago, after three years of marriage, I was told I could not conceive. My husband and I were devastated, as we desperately wanted to have a family and many friends were starting to have children. I couldn’t walk through the baby/kids department in any store, knowing I would never have that experience. So, we decided to try and adopt.

Adoption is not an easy process. We were called months after our application with a private adoption agency, and we began the process that was long and detailed. We were thrilled when we were accepted, even though no timetable was given as to when a baby would be available. Then, two months later, we got the call that we had a baby girl we could meet the next day. I remember a caller who was told that no one would ever love her baby as much as she did (while she considered giving it up for adoption). Well, when that baby girl was put in my arms, she immediately became mine, ours, and we loved her unconditionally.

We had a solid marriage, a nice home, and family and friends who rejoiced with us. Thirteen months later, I was pregnant, and our “first” baby girl would eventually have a little sister. They adore each other and have been best friends now for 44 years and counting. I can attest my love for both my daughters is exactly the same.
