Email of the Day: One Way to Reverse Bad Behavior in Kids

Email of the Day: One Way to Reverse Bad Behavior in Kids

I remember from a long time ago that you had a solution involving hand-holding when kids fought with each other. My daughter has two girls ages 10 and 12 who constantly fight, so I told her about this. Recently, she told me they were misbehaving, so instead of yelling at them she decided to try the hand-holding method you described. Boy did it work.

She even video recorded from her phone what was going on after they started holding hands - lots of drama, crying, but no more fighting and they held hands for the hour. They kept saying they didn't want to hold hands and she said they had misbehaved so that was the punishment.

She told the family what had happened and sent us the video and we all had a good laugh because these kids were a nightmare for the whole family. The next day, my daughter reminded them that if they did not behave, they would have to hold hands for an hour. They’ve behaved beautifully ever since.

Keep up the good work Dr. Laura. You sure made a big difference for our family.
