Almost 40 years ago, we adopted our first two daughters at birth, about two years apart. We’ve never felt that they are were anything other than our children. They knew early on that they were very special because they were adopted. They knew their birth mothers did the most unselfish thing possible – found a loving mother and father who could provide for them and love them.
One daughter got pregnant when she was young and unmarried. She made the unselfish and difficult decision to have the baby and give it up for adoption. She said she wanted her baby to have what she had, both a mother and a father who could love and care for him or her. Although it would have been our preference that she waited until marriage to become pregnant, we were happy she chose not to have an abortion and to give the baby life.
