Email of the Day: The Two Great Men in My Life

Email of the Day: The Two Great Men in My Life

My dad passed away almost twenty years ago. He was tough, but loving, and when I became an adult, I would jokingly tell people that I never had an opportunity to stray off the straight and narrow path because my dad was an ex-Marine drill instructor, a Baptist deacon and he worked for the state prison system!

He knew his job was to love, protect, and discipline, and he took that job seriously. He was also fun-loving and full of grace when the occasion called for it. As he was dying, we could tell he was hanging on, because his job was to love and care for my mom. As he drifted in and out of consciousness, I told him it was okay to go and that we’d take care of mom. My wonderful husband promised he would take care of his mother-in-law. It seemed to make a difference, and dad passed away peacefully.

To this day, my husband has kept his promise. He loves and takes care of his family, and especially my mom. I’ve been blessed to have these two great men in my life, and our adult son is following in his dad and grandad’s footsteps.

Keep doing what you’re doing, Dr. Laura, as you promote family values and doing the right thing.
