Email of the Day: What You Learn When You Raise Your Own Kids

Written by Dr. Laura | 5/23/22 8:15 AM

I stayed home and raised five children. It wasn’t always peaches and cream, and it’s a lot of hard work. But through the years, I’ve received many great compliments on how well-behaved my children were, how respectful and appreciative they are, and how hard-working they are. They were all great students for many different reasons, but mainly because I was there to hold them accountable and give them needed structure.

I went back to work when my last two were in high school. It was a commission sales job so I could be home with them at night. And to my surprise, I became the number one salesperson in my region for several years! So, don’t think you’re throwing away a career forever if you stay home to raise your kids. You can always go back to work and you will learn a lot from your own children – including competition, endurance, sacrifice, forgiveness, accolades and achievements – that will make you a successful person later in life as well.
