Over the years of listening, Iβve heard calls from people who are lonely. Theyβve retired, lost a spouse, or the kids have grown up and moved out. Your advice to them is to find an activity or do something they enjoy. You are so βon the money.β
While I am married and in no way βlonely,β I AM an introvert and mainly keep to myself. A few years ago, I started going to the local gym, which has a pool, and I began walking laps, but thatβs a solitary activity. Last year, I finally decided to get over my shyness and signed up for an aqua fitness class instead.
This was the best thing Iβve ever done, because of the multiple benefits it brings me. Not only do I get exercise, but I also get to listen to wonderful music during the class, and (this is the part that will help anyone who is lonely), Iβve made new friends. We even do things outside of class (like going to dinner or just getting together). Being accepted as part of this group is a wonderful feeling, and Iβm so glad I took that first step to allow it to happen.
