Seven years ago, when I was in my late twenties, I was doing everything wrong. I was shacking up, and not choosing wisely. One day a friend said “Dr. Laura would not approve of you shacking up and being an ‘unpaid whore.’” I was completely appalled! Who is this Dr. Laura and why do I care what she thinks?

But I couldn’t get that sentence out of my head, and I was also intrigued. The more I thought about it, I realized that this total stranger – this “Dr. Laura” – wanted more from me than I wanted for myself. So, I sought you out and started listening, and you became a daily habit.

I moved out of my shack-up situation, chose wisely and married an amazing man who I treat kindly, and I quote you daily. We have twin babies now and when people ask what I do, I proudly tell them I am my husband’s girlfriend and my kids’ mom.
