The Dr. Laura Program | Heard Daily on SiriusXM Triumph 111 & The Call of the Day Podcast

Email of the Day: I Used to Binge Eat to Your Show

A few years ago, I was in the parking lot of a fast-food restaurant, stuffing my face with as much food as I could fit. I was also listening to your program at the time. I often spent lunchtime waiting for your program to start, then getting into my car to find the “flavor of the day” fast-food restaurant to binge eat to my heart’s content. I would return home to “purge” my food. It was a never-ending cycle and I felt trapped.

Then I heard you speak to a runner who had anorexia. While I don’t remember the exact call, something about it “hit” me. I had been an athlete too, but after a soccer injury, I became lazy and unmotivated. That day, I decided to go for a run. It was slow going at first, but I worked myself up, mile by mile. My fast-food lunchtime Dr. Laura sessions were replaced with sandwiches, and then eventually salads. Your phrase “eat less, move more” became my mantra.

Soon I’ll be racing in my first-ever Ironman triathlon – that includes swimming, biking, and running a marathon. I’ve also raised more than $4,000 for leukemia research along the way. I’m now in the best shape of my life and I’m happy AND healthy. Thank you for being the catalyst to put me on the right path.
