Email of the Day: My Son Made Me Proud

Email of the Day: My Son Made Me Proud

I wanted to share how my son has made me proud with some big changes. I've spent the last few years feeling very sad about him. He was a loving little guy. At 13 my son became a grumpy, lazy teen who was only interested in video games and friends. Once he turned 16, things began to change. I started to get excited about what I was seeing.

He asked me if he could start a business cleaning garbage cans in our neighborhood. He bought a used power washer and had ideas of how to spread the word to our neighbors. Just a few months ago I had to remind him to keep up with his chores and now he was giving himself even more responsibility. He started his business and has already earned $300. He's so proud of himself, and I'm proud too!

You were the person who taught me to be his mom and not his friend. There were times I wondered if we would ever like each other again, but I did tell him I loved him a lot and praised any behaviors I did like because that's what you told me to do. I had you in my ear telling me I was doing the right thing for my boy and I can see that it is paying off.
