My father, who was in failing health, was approaching his 95th birthday. I put together a party for him. I started planning over a month in advance since my two younger brothers live across the US from us. One of my brothers indicated that he couldnβt make it because he was moving. I pushed ever so gently to try to get him to realize that βthis was it." This would probably be the last party we planned for our dad. My brother pushed back with vitriol. Then I heard a call on your program that really spoke to me.
The caller wanted to know if they should attend the birthday of an elderly parent and started to explain the difficulties they would have. You cut the caller off and said, βYou drop everything, and you attend." The caller attempted to add more, and again, you said, βYou drop everything, and you attend.β I thought to myself: thereβs my answer.
My brother never saw the light and did not attend. His loss. My father passed nine weeks after his 95th birthday. On a daily basis, you teach us to appreciate and make the most of the time that we have left with our loved ones. Thank you for all that you do for those who listen! We appreciate your words.
