Email of the Day: Mom and Dad Really Did Know Best!

By Dr. Laura on December 7, 2023
Young woman crosses her arms while looking away from older woman and older man behind her, both talking to her

My biggest regret in life is ignoring the advice and pleas from my mother and father not to marry my first husband. They were right about everything they cautioned me about. After 22 months of wedded disaster, I filed for divorce.

Two years later, I met the man I should have married. I brought him home to meet my parents on our second date. If they liked him, I planned on having a third date. If they didn’t, I would never see him again.

I learned my lesson the hard way. I needed to trust my parents’ wisdom from having lived so much longer than me, realizing they were better judges of character. I did have that third date, and my husband and I have been happily married for over 40 years.
