GRIEF

Email of the Day: The Beauty in Grief

I listened to your podcast on grief and loss. I identified with the callers during this podcast because I lost my husband 10 years ago. I needed to hear you tell me to face the grief. To feel it. I needed you to tell me not to push it deep down.

Shortly after the loss of my husband, I joined a grief group. As I listened to widows and widowers, I got to hear their stories. I heard about regrets too. Their stories helped me realize what an amazing husband I had for 45 years. When it was my turn to talk, I told the truth about him being my knight in shining armor. I realized that I had what many didn’t have. That made me appreciate my husband even more.

Eventually, I did not need to attend the meetings anymore. If a problem comes up, I ask myself what kind of advice he would give me. I have my favorite photos of him and of the two of us together placed in areas of the house that make me smile.

Thank you for being a friend to so many people, me included. You are very much appreciated.

Sincerely,

Ann
