Email of the Day: You Lit the Fire I Needed to Get Me Going

Turtle has wheel attached beneath him with a strapped on dynamite piece

Before I stumbled on your radio program, I was a new dad, freshly retired from the military, and looking for a new career since I was so โ€œyoung.โ€ My wife was working full time, and I temporarily took on full-time dad duties, while earning some information technology certifications that would get me on the fast track to a great job. After getting a great job, my 2-year-old and 3-year-old were in daycare until 6:00 every day. Then I found you on SiriusXM. I listened to you on my lunch breaks, and it felt like I was on the wrong path. I only saw my kids after 7PM until bedtime. How was I supposed to raise them with only a few hours per week?

Shortly after that, I told my manager that I missed my children and I needed to be with them. She teared up and told me she was proud of me for making that leap. It turned out that she was trying to raise her grandchildren while working full time, because her daughter couldnโ€™t handle the stress. A moment of embarrassment for me turned out to be a moment of inspiration for someone else. I took the kids out of daycare and started fresh. Then COVID hit, but I was immediately available to carry my children through the madness that ensued. We transitioned smoothly to homeschooling, and although itโ€™s stressful, Iโ€™m grateful to be here. I am the driving force behind their education, but you, Dr. Laura, were the fire under my behind that needed to be lit to get me going.
