My husband and I just celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary. We were both a little older when we married – I was 32 and he was 36. Neither of us had been married before, and we’d lived on our own for many years after college. While there was an “adjustment” period as we got used to each other’s ways, we’re very happy together after 40 years.
We volunteer at our church to work with young engaged couples. For those who are already sharing a roof, we suggest they live separately until their wedding day. But for every couple, we give a particular piece of advice – no matter what, do not stop holding hands! Many of them don’t do that, and we tell them to start now and never stop.
My husband and I hold hands no matter where we are – out for a walk, going into a restaurant or going to church. And one thing I know for sure – you cannot fight if you’re holding hands!
