One of the things that caught my attention from listening to you is your focus on how to raise a boy into a man. Although I’m the mom, I try not to be a hindrance to my boys’ development and to be helpful alongside my husband for them to take on challenges and look for opportunities for them to be independent and responsible.
This summer, my oldest (who is 15) said he wanted to make money so he can buy himself a few things he had his eye on. He told us he was going to “pressure clean” sidewalks in our neighborhood, and even created his own flyer to drop off inside local mailboxes. He got his first appointment as he was distributing flyers!
I’m so proud of him and am thankful for your advice, which keeps me grounded when it’s very easy to become complacent and just give everything to our kids. It was hard to see my son work in the hot weather for four hours to make fifty dollars, but I knew this was a great experience for him.
